As chemical engineer and later as president of Dow Chemical Co. (1930-1949), a pioneer in development and production of a wide variety of plastics materials, including cellulose ethers, polystyrene, polystyrene foam, saran, divinylbenzene-based ion-exchange resins, and styrene/butadiene latexes.
