First staff vice president of the SPI, a responsibility that spanned more than 30 years. Dedicated his entire life to the plastics industry.

Condit joined SPI in 1942, when the entire staff numbered four people, and became immediately immersed in the evolving issues and markets for plastics as well as the growing activities of the Society.

He took on the responsibility of forming, administering, and guiding several key SPI operating units and committees, directing more than 10 operating groups through periods of severe challenges and problems with deft managerial balance. Early in his work, Condit administered the publication of the first edition of the SPI Plastics Engineering Handbook.

In addition, he was the original organizer and director of the concurrent National Plastics Conference, the major technical forum related to SPI's National Plastics Exposition.

He served for many years as the plastics industry's representative to the International Standards Organization (ISO). He also held several committee chairmanships and made significant contributions to the development of procedures and methods for the plastics industry that govern worldwide practice today. He promulgated several commercial standards through the Department of Commerce.

Charles Condit's services to the industry have significantly contributed to SPI's development, growth, and effectiveness. His ambassadorial stewardship during the industry's ever changing and evolving history contributed substantially to the growth of the industry.

He was born in Lima, OH in 1915, and received his degree in chemistry from Jackson Junior College in Jackson, MI. He lives in Montserrat, The West Indies.
